Chardonnay Deli & Farm Stall

Whilst the exterior of the building does not boast much, as you enter the deli you are overwhelmed by the delicious homemade treats and homegrown fruit and veggies on display. A part of you becomes inspired to make your own jam, delicious crispy salads and juicy veggies with every meal, and the other part of you wants to learn how to bake different types of breads and cakes. For a moment you think to yourself — we are going to grow our own vegetable garden and live off the land, as they say.

This deli definitely did that to us. For a moment we were wondering how to convert the balcony of a flat into a lush veggie garden, and how we were going to have to buy multiple bread-making recipe books to create crispy light breads and pastries — then reality set in as we realised how much patience it would require, and we had second thoughts. If we did make our own produce, we would take away from the magic of this deli and others just like it — it wouldn’t be fair (wink wink nudge nudge). The right thing to do would be to just enjoy this deli and the fruits of their labour (no pun intended).

We immediately ordered a delicious piece of caramel cheesecake and a cappuccino. The cheesecake was light and fluffy and not too sweet or sour — it was just right, and the caramel on top made it so much more flavourable, one of the best pieces of cheesecake we have had in a long time. The cappuccino was also delicious, nice and creamy, and the perfect way to end a very busy day of exploring in Constantia.

Families are welcome at the deli with large tables and places for children to explore outside, and it is also conducive to anyone wanting to sit alone and chill in the shade. The little art gallery to the side of the deli makes for great viewing, and tasty looking breakfast options are available too.

This is definitely a deli to remember and well worth a visit.
