						Go in peace. This blessing resounds throughout the kingdom of Lesotho, posted on road signs and reiterated by the citizens whose warmth of heart and caring community spirit shines through the smiles on their faces. This trip was designed by the Outdoor SA team shortly after our last visit to Lesotho when we ventured up Sani Pass, our interest was definitely sparked and it was decided more of this beautiful country had to be explored. Our journey began from a humid Durban and we were later greeted by rain on our arrival in Underberg. KarMichael Farm hosted us with outstanding hospitality, who can ask for more than a comfortable bed, feather pillow and a great breakfast the next morning. Day two greeted us with perfect weather conditions and after filling our petrol tanks in Himeville, we headed for the boarder. They say life begins where the tar ends and Sani Pass is true testament to that fact. Although all three vehicles headed up the pass with ease, there has been a definite decline in its overall condition, with certain sections boasting impressive rock fall and serious soil erosion. 						We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the Olive Exclusive comprising a full continental and hot offering before checking out and saying adieu for the moment. We piled our luggage, camera equipment into the Toyota Hilux rental, and then ensuring that we had purchased sufficient water from the hotel we set off on our journey. Leaving central Windhoek we set off in a South West direction with lots of anticipation and excitement. The lush green vegetation surrounding the greater Windhoek area started to thin as the spectacular scenery flashed by. The obligatory stop at the permanent road block at the outskirts of the town did not deter our enthusiasm as the local policemen welcomed us to their beautiful country and bade us well on our way. The landscapes continued to change and become more arid, with the vegetation becoming scarcer. The external heat continued to rise and we were much relived for the aircon and water that we had brought with on the trip. The vastness of the landscapes stretched out all around us and we took in the natural beauty of our surroundings. 						My wife and I spent a weekend at the lodge. We stayed in a lovely garden suite with a beautiful view of the amphitheater from every window. All your needs are met in the room and there are various size suites depending upon your number of persons. The price includes breakfast and a plated dinner. The food was lovely and a step up from the normal buffet fare offered at most Drakensberg resorts. Lunches can be paid for separately and they have a wide offering to choose from. 						As we pulled up to the gate to the lodge, a long stretch of sandy dirt road lay in front of us. As we entered this private nature reserve, a herd of impala sprung across the road and we knew from that moment that we were in the bush. At reception we were greeted by our friendly host, Jane. She welcomed us and walked us to our chalet for two. As we had chosen the self-catering option, the kitchenette in the room was of particular importance to us and it did not disappoint. It was well-equipped. After we had settled in, we decided to embark on a self-guided nature walk, which was quite safe as the reserve does not have predators. We came across many different antelope species, exquisite birds and a troop of monkeys. It was awesome to see these creatures up close in their natural habitat. This reserve is also only about a twenty minute drive away from the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, which offers the excitement of seeing the Big 5. It is also close to St Lucia and many other nature reserves, which makes Malala Lodge the ideal place to stay for a trip to Hluhluwe. As [&hellip;]

						We arrived at Highstakes on a cold, grey and rainy Wednesday morning and were greeted by a friendly and very helpful Craig. Craig pointed us in the right direction and sent us on towards the 4&#215;4 course. He said that he would accompany us to show us some sections of the course that were not open to the general public. We were driving the Subaru XV Auto, which proved to be a very capable vehicle for a soft-roader and we were very impressed by how well it handled the course. Brad was in the driving seat of the Scubi (as it’s affectionately known) and his confidence grew as we conquered obstacles we didn’t think were possible in this vehicle. Every obstacle has a bypass so if you chicken out or your vehicle can’t make it through or you are afraid of damaging your vehicle you can always drive around the difficult bits. We followed Craig past the no entry signs to reveal some steep axle twisting hill climbs. The little Subaru was certainly put to the test but after a few tries it made it up both slopes. 					<h3 class="blogpost_title"><a href="https://outdoorsa.co.za/hluhluwe-umfolozi/">Hluhluwe – Umfolozi</a></h3><article class="contentarea">
						As the sun rose behind the hills of the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, locals and tourists alike were mesmerized by the escarpment. The feeling of being completely at peace and at home set in as we drove around looking out eagerly for the movement of animals. The Reserve offers not only a romantic getaway for two but also caters for family excursions and children go wild with excitement at seeing the animals. We watched graceful rhinos grazing right next to the road. We were completely amazed by them yet made sure we kept our distance as they got closer and the adrenalin starting pumping through our veins. With baboons and monkeys running up and down the hills playfully, they almost stopped and posed for our photos whilst also keeping watch in the skies for the eagle that was circling around us. The giraffes were almost camouflaged in the autumn trees and the sounds of snapping twigs alerted us to their presence. As we turned the corner a herd of buffalo were crossing the road, I felt my heart racing as the bull stopped and stared straight into my eyes. What an awesome experience.
